‘Natural Perspectives’ – Photography Exhibition

Natural Perspectives - Rachael MagowanNATURAL PERSPECTIVES, by Rachael Magowan

Time: 13 November · 18:00 – 21:00
Location: Astanga Yoga Space (above the NWS Sports (martial arts/boxing supplies) shop, 1st Floor, 583 Barlow Moor Rd, Chorlton M21 8AE. It’s just before Four Banks crossroads, on Barlow Moor Road, Chorlton). The entrance is to the rear and side of the car park.

This is the second open viewing evening for the exhibition, and will mark the formal dedication of the collection to the Save Chorlton Meadows campaign and Friends of Chorlton Meadows group.

The theme of this photography exhibition is the juxtaposition of humankind and the natural world, illustrating both the battle often waged between the two, as well as the times when harmony prevails. It… aims to explore and highlight the relative placement of natural and man-made objects, with a particular emphasis on the timeless (and ultimately greater) power of nature.

Rachael Magowan has had a lifelong interest in photography, and started taking pictures in earnest when she was a child. Being raised in the countryside of the Welsh border counties, she grew up with a deep love of the natural environment, and this evolved into an equally vehement desired to see it protected. Her photographic work often reflects this passion, and is typically illustrated by her recent documentation of the high-profile ‘Save Chorlton Meadows’ media campaign, to which this exhibition is dedicated.

In addition to studying photography at university, Rachael has over 25 years shooting experience, and has worked with a wide variety of clients, including most recently: Chorlton Arts Radio (official studio photographer), Didsbury Arts Network, Manchester University, The National Harmonica League), and Zombie Aid (official photographer).

She spent 2009 working as the resident set photographer for an independent film company, and now works primarily with musicians, providing coverage of live performances in and around Manchester.
A long-term installation of her music photography is soon to be installed at My Place Bar (formerly The Lounge) in Chorlton, and further examples can also be viewed at Iguana Bar, Chorlton.

This event is free, the only thing we ask of guests is that they remove their shoes when in the exhibition space, as this area needs to be kept clean for the yoga workshops.
