It grows year round?
Here in the Bay Area, California it does. It can take our frosts in the winter, the roots actually taste better after a few frosts.

I used to have the yellow tragopogon in my former garden but now I only have the purple one. I tried the roots, after blooming, but they were quite woody by then. Is this one the yellow one?
This is the purple one. And the roots are also too woody when it goes to flower.
